Okay to use chest protector again after a crash?

So about a month ago I had a pretty big off, all my gear was fine (apart from the helmet which will obviously need replacing) however it's only just occurred to me whether or not I'll be able to use the chest protector again? At one point I came down really hard on my chest, to the point where the subsequent bruising on my chest outlined the protector perfectly. The protector I use (this) is made from thick foam; I'm wondering if it'll be similar to helmets where once it's taken an impact it's time to replace it?

If it were me and I had injuries highlighting the usefulness of my chest protector I would replace it...served a good purpose once but will it again?

They have compressible foam don't they? Which once compressed won't compress as well again (I think)...

That's what I was wondering, there's no visible signs of compression on the foam but I'm not sure how this foam stuff works. Lord only knows how much worse it could have been if not for the chest protector; I think I got a bit of a 'let-off' with just picking up a dislocated shoulder. My best bet is probably to buy another chest protector then. :)

You're one of the few people I know who uses a chest protector.

If replacing I would go with the Forcefield version, they are rubbery-plastic rather than foam, so should habdle repeated knocks.

Really? I think more people should be using them considering all those ribs and organs that need protecting!

I've heard about the Forcefield protectors, I'll have to check those out.
