Sprocket Setups?
Hi all,
I was just looking at sprocket ratios and stuff trying to learn a bit, and i saw that 52/13 is 4, Is anyone running this? Is it even possible on an SV650? does anyone run anything other than stock? if so how is it? ...is it quick? :study: |

Smallest front that is practical is 14t, even so I don't like this. Prefer 15t front as stock to avoid chain wear as much as practical. I run a couple teeth up on back, maybe a 47t (stock for naked is 45), means you don't drop out of the power for slow corners. But it does mean more revs on the motorway and more changes to do anything. |
Re: Sprocket Setups
I used to run 14/45. It was ok for acceleration, but made the bike feel buzzy, so reverted back to standard

I'm just running stock at the moment, but its coming up to the time where i should think about changing the chain a sprocket... although im still restricted so ill probably just stay stock for now as it wont make too much difference overall. Cheers for the helpful info guys... i take it 13/52 would be a little extreme then? (In terms of wear and acceleration increase?) |
Re: Sprocket Setups?
13 would probably be taking too much of a bite out of the chain slider. Plus a massive increase in chain wear.
I would stick with 15 front. Also 47t is probably a bit much, 15/45 or 46 is fine. I would definitely not go above 47 unless you only ride in car parks. |
Re: Sprocket Setups?
I agree - 15/47t is probably the best...
...actually I've got a spare brand new steel 47t rear sprocket, still in the wrapper (managed to buy 2 by mistake). Yours (or anyones) for what I paid - £16 inc P&P |
Re: Sprocket Setups?
Hmm.. so basically, unless your racing... 47/15 for general usage?

Re: Sprocket Setups?
Been doing a few track days on my pointy what would be best sprocket setup to give a bit more acceleration

Re: Sprocket Setups?
I don't think there is increase in chain wear from going up at the back.
