ACU license test and Preston + District club
 

Has anyone any views or recent experience of the club. I have done track days at three sisters before and ccm hire and ride days which from what I gather is the only place they use? I want to get my acu licence and wondered if it was worth joining in either 650 twins or supermonos. I seem to spend a fortune on trackdays and travelling to them and thought it might not cost much more in a 'cheap' class there as its not a million miles away? I also notice you can now do acu test with club msv trackdays. Anyone recommend it? I can also do it at darley, but cant find info if you can at P+D/three sisters. any advice welcommed regarding license, club, track or bikes to use.

i race with preston and id definateley recommend it its great fun and the people that run it are really friendly, it only costs £75 to enter and £10 for an extra class,and you can stick minitwin in 2 classes there,it can be a really cheap day out if all goes well! the acu test days there are normally through the week before the race meetings and they are only £30 a session open pit lane, for 2 hour sessions, and theres 4 sessions in a day, so you can get alot of track time for not alot of money,and is nothing compared to the cost of an msv track day!the last one i did at oulton was £169!! the 3 sisters website will have all the test days and meetings on there, they dont do the ctc courses at 3sisters though to get your license so you would have to do that somewhere else. All in all if you have an acu license and your not far away its well worth a look

I agree on trackday prices, have booked on oulton on june 15th with no limits at a bargain price of........£159 plus few quid for that new payment system they are using taking it to about £163!

I presume you race a minitwin? Are there many tatty curvys or all tricked up pointys? I can do a course and license test with msv by joining 'club msv' whatever that is. Or I can do test/assement at darley moor also. Any views on either appreciated. ta

yeah i race a curvy in the minitwins and i also race an nsr 250, theres alot of curvys about wherever iv raced to be honest so i dont think you have to worry about having a balls out pointy,and theres not alot in it really. theres lads on the grids with basically stock road bikes with the lights taken off out there so you dont have to worry about that. as far as the license goes im not too sure, i gather anything to do with msv they will charge like a wounded rhino, i looked at the darley one myself last yr for my mate thats probs your best bet and probs not far from you, he missed out on it and ended up going to the acu at rugby for the morning, if you check with the acu though they may have others with clubs, i did mine last year at a hotel in warrington and the wirral 100 held that. i think they get less frequent as the year goes on though.

All I can say is +1 :)

I love 3 sisters (especially thier medical provisions lol). I've sold my track bike now, but MAY be back a bit later this year. I've just sold my car so might buy another track bike.
3 Sisters is primarily a Karting track, but for small & middleweight bikes, it's ideal, lots of corners & not too fast. Like Eldiablo says, test days are super cheap. It might sound dear at £30 for 2 hours, but it's open pitlane, so you can spend the whole 2 hours on track, which is the same as 6 sessions of a track day.

I did my ACU at Rugby, bit boring listening to a self opinionated bloke who loved himself ("when I raced against Kork Ballington in 19zzzzzzzzz"), but I did learn a couple of things. It is common sense really & only takes a day.

My worries about quality of bikes is purely budget based. Thats why I,m thinking minitwins or even supermonos. Darley sounds better option, probably less 'corporate' also. Do they assess your riding at rugby as I think they do at msv and Darley. I have done Mick Boddice school at darley twice (few years apart, I forgot most of it apart from remembering enjoying it first time!) Do they do the course or is it someone from acu independantly?

The course at Rugby is at the ACU headquarters & is classroom based. They show a few videos & a guy from the ACU tells you what you should & shouldn't do. They then give you a little test & that's it really.
If you get the same instructor as we got, he was far more interested in telling you of his exploits in 125 world championships from years ago & how he helped manufacturers develop leather suits. It could probably be condensed into half a day to be honest, but needs must lol :)

I can't keep my eyes open for over half an hour in courses at work, don't know why! Never mind listening to someone talk about themself for hours. You just get that moment when you hear "so what do you think Richard?" I thought I had just blinked but don't know what the hell they are on about. lol Has anyone ever failed or do you need to be proper gormless?
