blackberry users

Hi all, my house mate is in a bit of a predicament. The problematic phone in question is a Blackberry Bold 9780.

When entering the passcode to allow use of the phone, it was entered incorrectly for 5 goes (on the phone it says 5/10 attempts) Then it asked for "Blackberry" to be entered, we did this, but then when trying to enter the correct password (that we know to be absolutely correct) it still says incorrect password. We are now on 9/10 tries and not wanting to wipe the phone (which is what happens when you get it wrong 10/10 times)

Anyone able to help or offer suggestions on how to avoid wiping the phone?
Cheers

****ing paswords. I buy blackberrys for my staff and they always screw up. Call the service provider from a landline. Ask for their tech helpdesk. I have experts at work that could help, but I'm not one of them I'm afraid. You sure they will wipe on 10/10 fails, they used to just lock.

Thanks for the reply.

According to forums and some info found on the blackberry site, getting the password wrong 10/10 times activates the security wipe, which deletes all personal info from the phone, i.e. restores to factory settings.
Whereas I would have thought the service provider help desk would simply provide a puk code for a locked phone, not be able to find a way round the password not being accepted

mmm take out the memory card first to save the photos and blah blah good stuff that might be stored, stick in a spare, then give it a go?

I does indeed wipe the phone after 10 attempts, if the passcode was changed recently you can try restoring the fone with blackberry desktop manager to pre problem, worked for my phone. May be a glitch caused by a recently downloaded app, like i say try restoring it to a week ago or so providing your friend has backed it up at some point.

The way i look at it is all phones have their downsides like anything, personally i love blackberrys and never had a problem with any of mine, my son had an issue due to a rogue app. Also i think iPhones are well overhyped

I'd say bring it back to the provider, or wherever you bought it from. Someone's gotta have an Idea there. I never had to do any sort of password with mine...strange.... I've never had a problem with my phone (Blackberry Torch)
