Buying advice: 650s faired 37K miles?

Hi,

I have had a few bikes most recently a speed triple which I renovated and sold. Im now looking to replace with something which will be good for getting the Mrs on the back so we can spend some time enjoying the bike together. I have two options a 2007 650 bandit with 17K in black or a SV650s fully faired on a 05 plate with a massive 37K miles. both bikes are cheap but the sv comes in cheapest at 1750. I took a punt on fleebay and won it from one bid, clearly I wont be buying it if it aint right.

Can you guys advise me on the sv?

it is two owners with full documented service history. there is some bubbling on the crank / cluch case and the forks but that doesnt realy scare me as it looks superficial. My main issue is the overall mileage. What are these bikes good for? although 37 if high for an 05 plate I wont be using it too much as it is a second bike. What should I look out for specifically on the SV, are theprone to issues?

in 48 hours Ill own one of these so your advise will be very much appreciated.

cheers

After 37k it should be pretty well run in :)

mileage works out about 120 a week, its a 6 year old bike so i'd be not worried in the slightest, the bubblings normal as with the forks-if it feels ok on the test ride take it.

No recalls I am aware of. Forks are squishy, brakes seize up, normal stuff really. Front plug can get wet so fit a fender extender.

Issues are fairly few and far between, there is a connector behind headstock for ignition switch which can fail.

I reckon you got a bargain there, the pointy looks great in black :D It's already got uprated fork springs which is good, but lowered rear suspension which is not ideal so I'd put that back to standard ASAP (unless you are short of leg...).

Rear shock will be pretty tired, but there are plenty of upgrade options which can really transform the bike.

The bubbling paint is purely cosmetic, the finish isn't the most robust and they all do this if ridden over winter and not washed regularly. Easily fixed with a bit of work though.

Brake calipers have been overhauled already, so that's one less thing to worry about.

It has the standard "cannon" exhaust fitted - nice and quiet but really masks the V twin sound and is very heavy. Again this is easily sorted if you are so inclined, there's a huge choice of aftermarket exhausts.

I found the bike on eBay, not difficult was the cheapest 05 that's sold for a while!

Well that's pretty much common sense, you will rarely if ever get as much from a dealer a selling it privately.
