Damaged and Salvage Motorbikes, where from?

Where on earth do the insurance companies and riders sell there bikes after offs?

I want a project bike or something that just needs a little work after an accident.

They get sold at salvage auctions, there are plenty of them on-line if you search. However, decent bikes don't get written off if they only have minor damage, IME it's nearly always more expensive to (properly) fix write offs than you would expect.

Go on ebay, go to the "motorcycles and scooters" section, type "spares or repair" into the search bar along with a price range / your postcode and whack enter.

I don't see the attraction of buying anything from salvage dealers. They seem to want full good nick money for written off scrap.Buy privately if you want a project.

Absolutely.

Buy private if you have to buy at all. Personally I wouldn't bother rebuilding anything with a Cat C or D for road use or to sell on because the rebuild costs are too high and then the sale price is always too low to make it worthwhile. I'd rebuild a Cat C or D into a trackbike but that's about it.

Not once have I ever known anybody bring a Cat C or D bike back to spec without breaking past the cost of a good second hand sale . If they did they had to cut corners with crappy spray jobs and Chinky parts off eBay .

I rebuilt my own Cat D after it was written off. I had the fairings plastic welded, bought a new screen and levers and it was back on the road looking better than it did before it was written off. The insurance paid out 3 x times more than the buy back cost.
