UPDATE, PAGE 5. TamSV is awesome.
Hey guys, im currently changing from handlebars to clip ons and I'm at the stage of changing the yoke. now I've got the centre nut off and the suspension bolts off and the yoke is just connected to the ignition now.
It looks like its attached via 2 bolts which i have no idea how to get off. as you can see it's a cog shape with a solid bit in the center? pics; http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/7...9223737.th.jpg http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/9...9225431.th.jpg Also when i removed the 2 bolts that are connected to the suspension tubes the bike lowered a lot, is this what is supposed to happen? Thanks |
Re: Trying to remove top yoke
You need to get security bits to remove the ignition barrel.
What do you mean the bike lowered, haven't you supported the front end? |

It's an 02 by the way. Seems I've compressed the suspension completely :( Fantastic. |
Re: Trying to remove top yoke
Stupid question, you didnt undo the fork caps did you? no oil came out?
The bottom yoke should hold bike up and enable you to remove top yoke no problem? if it hasnt then im guessing bottom yoke wasnt tight? |
Re: Trying to remove top yoke
You do need to support the front. Go with a head stock stand so the forks aren't under any pressure from the weight of the bike.
Is your steering lock on? Where does your current handle bar mount? Above or below the top yoke? I haven't seen an SV with one solid handle bar yet. I still need to get my self out of my cave. Also, I recently removed my top yoke and came across the same issue. The ignition barrel was stopping me from removing the yoke. However, the only mechanical connection between the ignition barrel and the bike is those to security bolts. The actual issue was that the ignition barrel was obstructed by my clip ons. I loosened the clip ons so they could be rotated out the way and it came off easy enough. Hope this helps. If not call me tool. |
Re: Trying to remove top yoke
You need to change bottom yoke too if curvy as stem is different length

Re: Trying to remove top yoke
Bottom yoke will support it.
Problem is there can be some flex so you may need to unload front to drop yoke back into place. To get those ignition bolts out you can either get security torx bit or you can drill that pin out and use normal torx bit |
