My one and only geek moment...
Was running 32bit XP on an HP work station with 500gb 7200 drive with 4gb ram, it had a 2.6 quad core processor and after 2.5 years was just feeling its age..
Que new SSD 64gb drive, 6gb ram, and windows 7 its flying. Its running the quad cores at thier full 2.6Ghz where as XP was only managing 1.9Ghz I couldnt believe the difference in solid state drives, the whole win 7 & win 7 SP1 took 35 minutes to install (if that) down an hour on a standard drive... any way.. yay for new shiny computer machine |
Re: My one and only geek moment...
Your old spec is still way better than my laptop lol
See with that kind of system, do you get a lot of heat from it? |
Re: My one and only geek moment...
+1 Darren, I'm running an AMD 2600+ with 1.5gb RAM and 70gb HDD :0(
if anyone wants to donate old stuff so I can build a new desktop/tower... PM me :0) |
Re: My one and only geek moment...
I think its more new installation + windows 7 vs XP. My install is as fast on a regular samsung F3.

Re: My one and only geek moment...
But question is what broadband connection have you got to abuse all this new found power with?

Re: My one and only geek moment...
A bit of everything. W7 is way faster than XP, especially on modern hardware but the SSD is making a huge difference in boot and loading times. They are somehow more fragile than HDDs though so don't really 100% on then and have a daily backup routine in place.

Re: My one and only geek moment...
Yeah, your old unit is slightly better than my now dead PC. Thats a 3700+ AMD64, running 1gb ram and a 32gb hdd and 250gb hdd
I will get round to replacing the motherboard, which ahs dieded, and maybe like you chuck in a SSHDD as all my storage is now a 4tb Nas (2x2tb raid1) I also want a new screen. 24" me thinks :) |
