Right, a replacement bike!
 

Hey all,

I'm well aware I started a similar thread many moons ago, concerning which bike to buy to replace the dead SV after my little prang (not my fault!).
Well, I have finally got the injury payout, and its turned out quite large...

So, I just wanted to throw some ideas out there and see if they're any good.

The three main bikes I've been considering are all Hondas, granted, but I have no experience/knowledge about the other makes, so:

CBR900RR
CBR600F
Vfr750/800 (maybe VTEC)

Budget no more than £3000.

Slightly different bike there between the CBR and the VFR

Depends what you want it for but if you fancy an all rounder I would go for Luckypants's VFR!!!

Between a 'blade and a VFR, the 600F wouldn't even get a look in. The 900RRs are good bikes, pretty roomy, reasonable handling. The VFR sounds better.

I personally love the VFR VTEC and would thoroughly recommend it, but as Moses says VFR and Fireblade are very different beasts. For me the VFR is comfy, real world fast, great at touring, sounds good, looks good (IMHO) and the VTEC still gives you the feel of a sports bike, if not the out and out performance. I have not ridden a Fireblade in ages, so do not feel able to comment on that bike.

CBR900RR - Got one of those, the 954 version in particular.

My honest, honest opinion?

On fast, sweeping 'A' type roads it's just magnificent - hand on heart I don't think I could pick a better machine for the job. It's nimble, comfy (once you get above 50/60mph ish), responsive and groin-blisteringly fast. (120pmh in 2nd gear is quick enough for anybody!)

Just awesome.

However... on bumpy, hilly, gravelly, pot-holey, very tight/twisty roads (like a lot of the AR was on), it's a nightmare! Too stiff, kicked me out of the seat loads of times, felt every bump in the road.. etc... etc...

This is NOT the bike to buy if you're the type of person that wants to jump on and go for a wee ride out in the country. You've got to be all-in and fully focused when riding it.

CBR600F - my mate's got one
Far more 'every day' user friendly than my Blade, quick enough for any roads and a more wasy going ride all round.

Perfectly good reason why there are so many of these about and it's because they're an excellent, excellent motorbike.

Absolutely no reason not to buy one of these, unless you're bothered about having such a populer bike (wouldn't bother me in the slightest, personally).

VFR800 - Test rode a few before I bought the Blade.

See above but a bit more all-roundy again. Personally, I preferred the older, non VTec version but that's just me. Biggest problem for me when looking was that I couldn't find a decent, clean one for anything like sensible money - plus I've always wanted a Fireblade, so I got that instead!

IF you decide to go down the VFR route (and it's another fine, fine bike!), then I too would strongly suggest you take a look at Luckypant's one that he's selling. A lot of the folks on here have seen it and can all vouch for it's condition, I can't imagine you'll go far wrong with it.

Is there a local dealer with any of these bikes in stock? would be a good advantage if you could get back to back test rides on all 3 bikes so you can make direct comparisons

well ive got a 929 and a vfr800f1(pre vetec)there both very good bikes but completley different bikes,if you want to ride very fast on a well handleing bike,very reliable and tractable,will pull from 2k revs, buy a blade,i wouldnt want to do long distance on one though.if you want a long distance tourer then get a older vfr pre vtec(cheaper and faster than the vtec) and for 3k you can get a mint 929/954 and get some change,and for1.5k the same for a vfr800 pre vtec,i wouldnt even consider a vtec,it has no advantages over the older bike,less hp and 2 camchains and more money to service,as to day to day running on a run the vfr will do 46mpg,normally about 42mpg running about my 929 will do 50/55 on a run but if you are doing a lap of the iom tt then some what less

Definitely discount the 600F if your looking at blades and viffers.

The last of 900's are the best blades, or looking slightly older the last of the carbed 900's (circa 2000). The first of the thou blades are seriously focused bikes (weigh f*** all aswel).

Viffer would be my preference out of the two, as are proven to last forever
