v-twin under 650cc?
Hi, I'm currently designing a bike engined car (think like a kit car), and I would like to use a V-Twin engine for it's torque, but it must be under 610cc and four stroke.
Any suggestions? Must be a recent engine that is easy to get hold of and with good quality parts availability. Thanks |
Re: v-twin under 650cc?
sv400 springs to mind. I'd think it'd need to be pretty light to go for torque over the big difference in hps.
But most likely wrong. Are you just designing or are you actually going to make? I have a good contact in sheffield engine wise but your needs may be a little specific. |
Re: v-twin under 650cc?
honda transalp or revere(ntv) are both 600cc or there abouts and would fit your requirements although the Tranalp is about 50bhp as it runs a 9.2:1 com ratio, the revere is about 57-8 bhp.
Cheers Mark. |

Any preference for shaft or chain drive.

Re: v-twin under 650cc?
Varadero 125, yamaha Virago 535, honda bros(ntv, revere) as a starter.

Re: v-twin under 650cc?
I have a Hyosung GT125R which is a v-twin and is actually a very good engine, they also do a 250 v-twin. Their engine are based on the SV.
But that RRV looks NARCE. would have saved my tonnes on insurance seeing as I'm only 18! |
Re: v-twin under 650cc?
Honda NTV 600 REVERE

We have the opportunity to build it next year and go ahead to race it if we do a good job with the design. Your contact may be useful for some general questions or insight? Depends if it's relevant on what we need though. Everyone seems to use the CBR600RR/R6 (IL4) etc engines, I want to do something different. It's an autocross course with speeds ranging from 29-35mph, with brief stint of 65mph. It must also be fitted with a 20mm restrictor. I was thinking what's the point with having the top end power when I want a grunty engine with plenty of torque at low revs, to give improved acceleration at these low speeds, much like my own SV (although it's over the 610cc, it would've been ideal otherwise). This year we're using an SXV550 engine at the moment and it's ok, but they're having big problems, so I thought I'd try to think of an alternative for my own design. Re: v-twin under 650cc?
My 650cc Honda Bros was dynoed 44bhp at the back wheel(k&n/jetted). Torque peaked at 3000rpm and went on nice and flat..... its just there is not very much of it.
If you regard the aprilia SVX's as only ok up against 600SS 4's everything mentioned here will get completely slaughtered.:smt009 The capacity restriction kills the twin thing, for me. |
