Choke causing stall
 

I have recently installed K&N and fitted new sparkeys.

The engine used to need the choke to start from cold, then ease off after a minute of warm up.

After new parts in weather of 15 degrees or higher it starts lovely without any throtle or choke. The mornings are quickly getting colder and I am getting worried on a few cold mornings so far I can still start the bike without any throtle or choke and it runs but struggles, any attempt i make at using throtle or choke stalls it straight away. If I wait 30secs for some heat it becomes useable.

Has the mixture become wrong, to lean? Can I do anything?

Starter struggles, stopping momantarilly while turning over engine.

I have seen posts about stuck choke plungers and wonder if mine are. I have to move the choke lever around about 3/4 of and inch before it does anything so is it not disengaging properly? How can I tell?

get the air box off and undo the screws holding the choke plunges in, bet you'll find the plungers and springs all gunked up , clean and a good scoot of cable geaser down the splitter and you'll be sound

Just to add. Be careful with the screws, they are made of Japanese cheese (which isn't very strong). I found that the front plunger was sticking on mine to the point that the cable snapped. Took a bit of getting out, but WD40 & time did the job

Yep

Just been there done that. Be prepared to drill out replace bolts.
With the plunger it will suffer from Galvanic corrosion (Brass into Aluminium), don't be afraid to get the mole grips on the plunger and work it out.

The front plunger will be the sod so get everything else off the carbs and the carbs off the inlets, cover the inlets with a clean rag and have a go.

I know it is an old thread but I only got the cables looked at the other day because they had started freezing stuck way on causing a racket in the mornings. I did indeed have 1 plunger gunked up and stuck.

Now that is sorted and things are a bit more ballanced the bike is much more predictable to ride on part throttle. Definately recommend everybody checking them if they haven't for a while.
