My office is in a corrugated steel annex to a factory with sod all insulation. As it was an add on they never pipped the factory heating system into it so everyone is equipped with an electric heater.

Somebody came round at the weekend and turned them all off. Consequently it is brass monkeys round here today, there is a 1/4" gap round the door to outside so a gale blowing through that. The sooner they knock this place down the better. I am sure it is warmer outside than in here/

The law does not state a minimum temperature, but the temperature in workrooms should normally be at least:

• 16°C, or
• 13°C if much of the work is physical.

The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 lay down particular requirements for most aspects of the working environment. Regulation 7 deals specifically with the temperature in indoor workplaces and states that:
‘During working hours, the temperature in all workplaces inside buildings shall be reasonable.’

If you are worried about the risks of cold, I would suggest the following.

Measure the temperature in your office and keep a record of the results. Installation of a Hot Tub, complete with back massage facilities. Installation of lively young ladies to share hot tub and provide stress relief from busy working life. Water proof computer for use in Hot Tub. Water proof Telephone for taking calls while in Hot Tub. Mini Bar with suitable drinks for consumption while in Hot Tub, this can range from herbal teas to Fine Malt Whiskeys.

Look Jayne, Just because you like the idea of sharing a hot tub with a bunch of lively young women whilst working. Don't tar me with the same brush. I simply cannot afford the divorce if the wife was to discover my new love of work. Although simply thinking about it did warm me up a tad.

I have managed to resolve my main problem which was a cold lower half by putting the electric fire under the desk. At least this tends to trap the heat and allow it wash over me. Instead in the heaters original position, the heat passed me by as it made its way up and through the roof.

I am tempted to break out the thermals if it continues to be like this. I know us northerners have a reputation to uphold for me hard men. One of the female types in the office did tell me not to be so soft when I moaned. I however, failed to point out that the reason she was not feeling the cold was because she was a menapausal whale carrying an unnecessary 3 stone of blubber insulation. Meow.

I'm working from home today and instead of turning the central heating on I've got the electric heater from my greenhouse in the study with me. Cosy. I don't bother to over winter anything in the greenhouse but the heater is great for setting things off earlier, so I'm making good use of the capital equipment without heating the whole house. God do I sound like a typical accountant when I say it like that...

Tim - you could always do "circuit project management". Alternate five minutes of shouting at teams to provide you with their overdue dashboard updates with five minutes of sit-ups or aerobics. Another five minutes of MS Project plan baselining following by five minutes of running on the spot or lunges. Make sure you nominate one the people in your tin shack to blow a whistle/hold a stopwatch/shout disparaging comments while telling you not to go back to the changing room (the toilet basically) for your jumper!

Spent a large part of day in preston records office, usually warn not it would seem after renovations. Saving on heating bills now to pay for said expenditure, sat with gloves on booo.
But on plus side motability car I was driving later had heated seats and stearing weel
