Moto 3

So we have seen the last ever 2stroke GP this weekend (bit of a let down when Zarco fell off tbh), but the replacement Moto3 sounds intriguing.

Does anyone know much about it ?

Supposed to be 250 4stroke singles, but what about chassis - are these going to be slightly bigger than the tiny 125's , same size or what ?

I'm going to miss the sounds of the 125 2T bikes, but I suspect that the 250 singles will sound like a grid full of MotoX bikes !

Re: Moto 3

Most teams will probaly retain their existing chassis and fit the engine which can be purchased from the manufacturer to save costs. There is a bike that runs in the class I race in which is an RS125 Honda chassis with a 450cc single cylinder motocross engine fitted, the thing goes and corners like nothing else!!. Rode it at Brands and it was awesome!.

That sounds like what KTM is planning to do and Mahindra if the BBC got their facts right

Well a 250 four stroke will be slower and heavier than a 125 two stroke, they should have gone for 450cc like superteens have done.

You never know that maybe the next stage.
But your never going to get the insane BHP out of the 4 stroke like they have out of the smoker.

Re: Moto 3

I wonder if 250 was chosen for political reasons? As in the powers that be want to start making it difficult for riders to own/run/insure bigger bikes so this helps the manufactirers start developing small capacity alternatives as a byproduct of the racing budget.

Of course I could be reading too much into it...

The annoying rule is "single cylinder" I was hoping crazy engines like 6 cylinder 125cc

Its a sad day that the strokers are going away but there's only been one company taking any interest in 125's for years, and strangely they aren't bothering with the moto3 class, at the moment.

I don't think they'll be that much slower than the 125's once they've got them going properly, but who cares if they are running 2 or 3 seconds a lap slower if they're all running close, cause they haven't been in 125's recently...

Its a shame that they aren't, but it took Piaggio long enough to develop the 4 stroke 125 (through Derbi) before allowing Aprilia loose with it
