Differences in GSXR1000 models K9/L0/L1?
Edit: sorry, titled should read Suzuki GSX-R1000. I was not also considering an S1000RR, honestttt
Hi, newbie question sorry. Potentially I am just being thick, it has been known, but I am considering buying an S1000 but I'm confused by the models when doing research. I assume these are just the year of manufacture but is there any documentation on what the differences are between them? From what I can gather the 2009 version is the latest major bike revision, so are K9, L0, L1 and L2 identical bikes? Thanks! |
Re: Differences in S1000 models K9/L0/L1
Hi
be good to get an idea how long you've been riding and what type/style of riding you intend on doing. To answer your question though I believe the 2009 model is the most recent and there is no changes in 2010 and 2011 machines except cosmetic. I currently ride a K8 1000. IMOH its a bit too much for the road really its at the track is where you'll get your rewards. Don't get me wrong though it performs wonderfully well on roads and is even comfortable to ride. Stick it in 6th gear and it will happily climb from 4k all they way up to silly revs with no jerkyness whatsoever. The suspension is great and is fully adjustable. The only negative thing about the k8 in particular is the brakes aren't great. Upgraded to braided lines and some new pads do help though. The exhaust valve kept sticking and was becoming a real problem on spirited rides so I do recommend disabling it! I have also had a go on the BMW S1000RR and TBH thats in a different league altogether :-) Suzuki do plan to unveil the new GSXR1000 K12 later this year early next year though so look out for that! |

K9-L0-L1 are all the same barring cosmetics

Re: Differences in GSXR1000 models K9/L0/L1?
I'm not considering the S1000RR anymore for various reasons. Probably in the future I will again.
I've been riding an SV650 for 2 years. I'm a reasonably sensible rider. I take my riding technique quite seriously. Majority of my riding is weekend trips away within the UK. I want one because they're cool, and I can :) I pretty much have my heart set on a GSXR1000 and given what you've said below, I'll probably look for a K9. I'm not too bothered about cosmetic differences Is the K12 a major change? That may help me get a better deal on a k9 if I stick it out until they're released Thanks for the advice! |
Re: Differences in GSXR1000 models K9/L0/L1?
The new L2 has had an upgrade on engine internals for increased low down grunt and has brembo monobloc calipers. Not a whole new model but has been improved.
There are no new K9-L1 models left now in Suzuki's warehouse, only whats left on the showroom floor. The new L2 isnt expected until March so there may be a month or so where there are none new available. They are doing the £1 min deposit and 0% finance still until the end of Dec, we have an ex demo L1 with 313 miles on the clock which is also available on the 0%. Plenty around used too. I had a racebike K9 and it was awesome...truely awesome yet reasonably friendly to ride even during my first race on it which was monsoon wet!! |

Re: Differences in GSXR1000 models K9/L0/L1?
I've seen K9s available in showrooms too with some reasonable discounts although I haven't tried to haggle yet and get a feel of what they go for. I wasn't sure they were basically the same bike until now.
I can't get rid of my sv650, sentimental value, so with 2 bikes on the road I'll probably try and get a used one Or I might have 5 whiskys one night, look at those lovely pics and pay my £1 |
Re: Differences in GSXR1000 models K9/L0/L1?
Ohhh If the new GSXR has monobloc brembo's and I was going to buy a GSXR-1000 I'd wait for the 2012 model.
Those monoblocs are amazing! |
