Harley Riders

This isnt a Haley bashing thread so sorry to disappoint.

I'm assuming there are a couple of Harley riders lurking somewhere in the org, so own up.

I've a friend planning to do his DAS in the spring and has his heart set on a Harley. So i'm looking for any and all advice on them, which ones are good, which arent, which would be suitable for a first bike, how old can he go and still expect a decent machine and what sort of money are we talking.
Also any recommended Harley Forums...

Like i said any and all HELPFUL information. Thanks

Balky is the only one I know of.
883 is the smallest on the harleys, the xr1200 is the most sporty of the lot (the Harris spec is a must). My uncle has had one for about 6 years and loves them and its a very good 2 up tourer aswel.

Anything post 2007 (i think) are Fuel Injected. Most bikes are modded so getting a stocker will be unlikey. He could see if there is any of the MoD 350 harley specials (MT350) if he's after something totally unconventional

Avoid the bikes from the 1980's and early 90's as Harley did a very good MV, Ducati or [Insert any italian bike firm] impression

My only advice, don't do it.

But...triumph do better cruisers :)

The sportster seems to be popular and fairly cheap compared to some of them.

Harley and Cagiva had a tie-up at one point in the 70s

shhhessh, I was hoping for a bit o Harley bashing :)

If I can take one for a spin before I ever took a CBT, anyone can, once they've passed a DAS.

Good grief, was that American know-how and Italian manufacturing quality or the other way round?! Sounds awful

Didn't realise you had to do a DAS to ride a Harley...I thought you had to have a HGV license. Ba doom tsshhhh.

Just for the record, Cagivas handle far better than them tractors, and aren't geometrically challenged either!
