should i or shouldn't i??

for road use only too and from work...

dunlop sportmax qualifier - £62 fitted with 3mm left of the tyre... with a repair...

or

pirelli scorpion sync £85 fitted with 4.5mm left of the tyre no puncture...

or hand over £140 for a bridgestone bt023 new fitted....

£50 for a punctured tyre is too much. You would get a better deal on a part worn on here if you asked nicely. The BT023 is good and i never had a problem on it. Got impressive mileage from it but im going to try something else next.

If your putting up for the winter, leave the tyre thats on until next year.
I wouldn't put a second hand plugged tyre on as you don't know how it was punctured.

Put the new 023 on as your paying twice other wise

What do you have up front? different tyres have different shapes and some say that having a mixed pair can make a bike feel 'funny' I know I have been advised to keep them matched...

personally NO NO NO the tyre is the thing in contact with the road no matter what you have on top, best shock absorber, set up, power, rider skills, it all comes down to the quality of your tyre. All the forces cornering, braking, accelerating all go through your tyre when it goes pop your on your ****. False economy to go cheap buy the the best you can to suit the bike every time.

But as i say only my anal preference No doubt if you save £60-70 quid you could buy more bling to look good when its laid on its side!!!! sorry had a bad day but still buy the best you can not someones cast off.

i have a dunlop on the front, standard that was on there when i got it... front has plenty left rear has im sure less than 1mm left down the middle...

i just begrudge paying £140 before xmas for a tyre that i wont use as soon as it starts to snow!!! plus im skint at the moment!

so thought that just for a month to get me into the new year stick a cheapo on the rear until it snows...

but that said if anyone on here has a rear that they are just gonna bin, i will of course dispose of it on my rear wheel :o)

i would normally buy a bridgestone but like i said skint and aint gonna see much use from it this year...

generally part worn tyres are a false economy, unless funds are tight I really wouldn't bother, after all you should be aiming to use a new one up anyway.

As to the question of mix and match on brands/type, it's normally adviced you stick to matched sets and once again if funds allow that's a sound thing to do, if however needs must and it's a case of just getting what you can/afford, then at a minimum do make sure the front tyre is the same or stickier than the rear as you tend to "feel" the rear grip more than the front so you can believe all is well then have the front wash out on you without warning.
