Opinions on CCT/Cam Chain noises. After fix.
My rear CCT was playing up so I recently had that swapped for a working one. However there is still a slight tapping/ticking noise coming from it.
After receiving the, new to me, CCT I noticed that when fully extended it made a sort of tapping/ticking noise if you shook it but when fully in, no noise when I shook it. Found out that at around half way extended there is practically no noise when it's shook but when it's extended 5/8 or more makes the ticking/taping noise when shaken. Now could this be what the noise is, that the tensioner has extended at least 5/8 of it's length out and the tapping I could hear when I shook it in my hand is the same noise when it's fitted on the bike? Could this mean I have a worn Cam Chain? On a side note, not sure if it's just a placebo effect. I noticed on my way back from the garage after the new CCT was fitted that the bike felt as though it pulled a little stronger and generally felt a little smoother. Could changing the CCT have this affect? |
Re: Opinions on CCT/Cam Chain noises. After fix.
I think the original CCTs can rattle so maybe it's normal, I'm not as boned-up on it as others on here. It won't make any difference to the performance, but a quieter bike always seems to be making lighter work of things.

The CCT rattle is normal on a Curvy.
You should be concerned when its through the rev range and quite loud |

I'm pretty sure that as soon as you rev it the noise disappears. It's only at idle. If it's nothing to worry about then I guess it's time to store it for the winter.

a quick test is only slightly open the throttle when warmed and the noise should reduce.
Get it away for the winter and use the Pikey magnet until late February |
