car mechanics, any ever sweated on a new reluctor ring?
Just trying to gauge how hot you need to heat the ring to get it to expand enough, nightmare scenario would be it cooling before it is fully in place on the CV joint. But I do not want to overheat it.
Yes had ABS failure whilst on my holibags in tykeshire |

clio by any chance?
done a fair few and you dont need to heat it, just make sure the cv joint where it sits is clean and youll be able to tap it on |
Stick it in the oven gas mark 9, go have a cuppa, then plonk on the cb joint. Heats evenly.
Podgey on a bike :) |

Yes a Clio
I got the feeling they were a popular fault. |

Your in luck then , no heat required they just chap on , just clean the cv joint in an electric buff , chip off the rust that burst the original ring and then a light rub with a file . When your splitting the bottom ball joint remove it from the wishbone (2x16mm bolts) not the m10 (17mm) pinch bolt and that means no damage to the ball joint . The off side shaft comes out with no gear oil loss but the near side is messy :). ps do both as the expansion due to rust that burst one ring will do the same to the other very shortly. enjoy

Re: car mechanics, any ever sweated on a new reluctor ring?
Thanks for the tip to undo the lower ball joint rather than trying to separate the ball joint from the hub. I also intend to swap out the stabiliser links at the same time as they seem to be a common fail as well and are only 2 quid.
Also tempted to swap out the front wheel bearings whilst the drive shafts are disconnected. 80,000 miles so probably worthwhile. |

If your doing the front bearings you need a press to remove them, and budget for two track rod ends as they always spin coming off and then need to be replaced , also you have to be carefull with the abs sensor on the press , if you brought the car to us to repair i would tell you to leave the bearings unless they are required .
