Can someone identify this switch please?
 

I recently undertook some minor repairs on my rear section and found this switch. (see attachment)

It's located under the rear seat and makes a contact when the seat is in place.
To try and find it's purpose i have tried starting the bike with the seat off and on. Makes no difference either way.

I then wondered if it was some sort of anti-tamper for my datatool alarm which is located under the same seat. Again it made no difference.

It's been loose for 2 weeks and i've used the bike as normal. I just put it back today.

Does anyone know what it's for? Does anyone else have one? :confused:

Definitely not standard. Alarm seems a likely possibility. Can you trace the wiring under the riders seat to see what it's connected to?

Looks like an alarm sensor, my car has a sensor like that for the bonnet meaning the alarm will go off if the bonnet is opened to try and disconnect things etc, guess the same would be true for underseat storage for bikes. You might find there is an additional setting for your alarm system which will arm everything? Or perhaps the switch is stuck down so it won't work?

Yes, I'd go on the alarm theory too. If someone tried to yank the rear seat off to get at the wiring, the microswitch would set the alarm off

Looks a lot like an underseat alarm switch - but mine has a long arm of metal attached to it to transmit movement of seat to the microswitch on the switch body. Looks like this is missing on yours.

Yup, thats the under seat switch from a datatool alarm.

Yout missing the metal arm that actuats on the top of that button. The idea is that the arm is always pressed down on that button and when some scrote tries to rob your bike by getting at the battery, they have to lift the seat and therefore set off the alarm.

If you arm the alarm with the button pressed in and wait for min or two then release the switch the alarm should go off. Most car alarms ignore the bonnet switch if its not pressed down upon activation, so this may well be the same (hence no difference plugged in or not).

Not sure it's quite that advanced - mine wasn't fitted very well and didn't actually make contact with the seat. Which means I could remove the seat without the alarm going off, but tended to nudge it with my hand when getting anything out. Any change of state seems to set the alarm off. Particularly annoying when your ears are near the alarm unit from bending over the bike...

Thats not untrue, im not really sure how sophisticated bike alarms are tbh compared with cars i have played with in the past.
