Every time I see this it makes me shudder & more grateful of my local (ish) dealer. Ive even seen a couple of bike only servicing repair businesses move to cars only recently.

Isnt this a more better time to learn to do stuff yourself? The amount of part availability to the ordinary punter without going through a dealership says a lot.

The only problem with learning to do stuff yourself now is that the technology in the bikes is becoming more computer controlled, and an increasing number of things which can only be done by a dealer.. or someone with the software that is usually a pain to get hold of.

I hear the same excuse about cars, but the fact remains there are still relatively few things a competent DIYer can't do.

There were 2 outlets near me, one in Paignton and one in Plymouth. I used to live in Paignton and it was handy to pop in and get a few parts etc. The clothing was ok as well. I have moved to Torquay and there is a dealership nearer so that is fine fr me now. I still find buying online easier for some parts, but not all like batteries etc.

I am keen, to a point, with my own maintenance and always have been. I only used them once to do some work when I ordered a chain & sprocket set which they fitted. The high hourly rate put me off using them for my oldish bikes. There is a local (well in Paignton) independant bike place that I use for MOT's & repairs that I'm not prepared to tackle myself.

It's sad to see them go though.
