Rear brake pad changing on a pointy
 

Hi guys, I was gonna be changing my rear pads on my K3 pointy but the exhaust is in the way of the screw that needs loosened. Am I being a plank or do I need to do something like using a trolley jack and bit if wood under the engine so the swing arm could drop the wheel under the exhaust?

I've done nothing but **** about with my rear caliper recently but nothing was in the way of it on my curvy. Have a look at this guide it's for a curvy but it can't be that different can it? It's probably easier to take the caliper off but you should be able to get at everything from underneath. Read through the guide first & watch out for springs firing out & getting lost!

Plank ............. take off the caliper it'll let you get in about it and give it a clean and grease at the same time. You can manouvre the caliper enough to get in about it to do the whole job if you take it off.

Ok, plank it is. :) I'll have a try tomorrow.

Dont pump the brake whilst its off. If you do the pistons will come too far out and it will be a nightmare to push them back in to make enough space to fit the new pads leaving enough of a gap for the caliper to slot back in to the disk.

That's my new pads in. I loosened off the bottom bolt to allow me to slide the caliper up and unscrew the bit which houses the pin. I had to drill out the hole in the pads though as they were a touch too small and the hole was oval. WTF?! I looked at the link a few posts back but they weren't like the pointy :(

I have a Haynes manual and if you follow their instructions on K3+ rear brake pads then you couldn't do it as there is no exhaust in the pics. I wish they paid more attention when making the manual. Rant out!
