No power to lights dash and alarm

I changed the battery on my sv at the weekend and ever since it has not worked, I thought I might be something to do with the alarm but after phoning datatool they have informed me that it is fully operational it just keeps going off as its not receiving a ignition signal,

I have troweled the forums and googled the life outa this but nothing has helped me, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many forums recommend I check the green plug in front of the air box but there is no visible damage/arching there. (any chance people know what to check there with the multimeter?)

Battery is fully charged and the correct make for bike
The two 30a fuses are intact and I have power at the cables coming off them
I have no power to the mini fuse box on top of the battery
I have no lights including parking light

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: No power to lights dash and alarm

Just check resistance between red and orange on the ignition side and with the switch on there is 0ohms load and with the switch off there is no return so I believe this means the ignition barrel is working

I’m getting 2.2v at the red off the wiring loom at the green connector does this mean that it is the connector at fault?

Re: No power to lights dash and alarm

Did you actually open up the green connector and look at the connections inside?
Mine looked like this:

Even if you did, it may be worth doing again and cleaning connections anyway.

Don't know which model of bike you have but all i would do is chase through the voltage using schematics from below thread:

http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=123167

right up to the active component (headlights etc) until you get a significant drop indicating resistance that shouldn't be there indicating where the problem is.

Hey mate, on my datatool alarm I had to switch it into "winter" mode in order to change my bike battery. Did you do this? Could it be that the alarm thinks you've nicked your own bike?

just a thought

Its a 99 sv650s

I did manage to put my alarm into service mode prior to changing the battery

Without Alarm circuitry (if you're certain it's not causing the problem)

1) Check continuity (~0 Ohm)between battery negative and chassis.
2) Check voltage between battery negative and main fuse in starter relay is 12V.
3) Check voltage between battery negative and fuse 5 in fuse box is 12V.
4 ) Red wire at ignition plug on loom should also be 12V to battery negative terminal.

Note: Battery +ve is conected to Reg/Rec and also (via fuse 5)to the instrument cluster

Thankyou so much for your help, after many hours spent in the cold poorly lit garage i managed to find the fault, The cable going to the alarm was picking up power from the live but where they made the join it had seperated
