Carb balancing needed - how do you know?

Just wondering how would you know if your carbs need balancing other than a poor idle ?

Also wondering do you think I should check mine? After adding, K&N air filter, Restriction washers & slip on.

Just seen a video on how it's done & doesn't seem that hard TBH so I'm thinking about checking them but only if theres a reason too.

I've seen 2 different types, 1 with Gauges & the other with Mecury whats best ?

Thanks

Noisy clutch & engine if they're out of balance

Don't buy cheap gauges they're a nightmare & the mercury ones aren't made any more by Morgan Carbtune, because of the mercury, they use stainless steel rods now.

Go for these or some decent oil damped gauges.

Once you've done it once or twice you can almost balance by ear, as the engine settle down nicely once the carbs get in sync

I don't have any noises comming from the clutch or engine for that matter. I just thought that having the restrictors in would effect them.

Yeah, a guy I've just watched used this one. Balancing them doesn't seem to hard.

Its not obvious until you've balanced the carbs what your engine sounds like in a perfect state.

The restrictors are equal in size so will have the same effect on each cylinder, and won't affect the balance
