It's my round....
now that you are all paying attention (or at least the cross section most likely to care about my question)
I'm a spirit drinker, mainly with mixers but in the last year I've gotten started on Cognac, usually Remy Martin as that is stocked in the hotel we stay at with the company. I've recently tried the Remy XO variety and its very nice, definitely my preference. I've also tried hennessey XO at my own expense and found this preferable but not the paying part. I've had drinks suggested: Rum and Black (Dark rum and blackcurrant cordial in equal measures) Cointreau and Coke (quite nice I think) and then after being told the above was "wrong" by a scot, I tried Cointreau and Baileys (two shots of baileys to one of cointreau) So far I haven't met a spirit I didn't like to be honest, I've got some absinthe at home to try but haven't done as yet. I'm after suggestions of perhaps run of the mill drinks to try next time I'm staying away on business. I thought my luck was in this morning as we visited a hotel for a conference and they had an EXTENSIVE collection of cognacs including Remy Martin Louis XIII and Hennessey Paradis but unfortunately they were £87/shot! :pale: I can't get away with that so I'm after suggestions along the above lines and will try them in the coming weeks. |
Re: It's my round....
Gin: Hendricks and Tanqueray 10 - ignore the marketing bowlocks about cucumber in the former, it just makes an otherwise lovely drink taste like cucumber
Bourbon: Makers Mark and Jack Daniels Single Barrel Umm, I'm trying to think of anything else, but any of the above four would do for either sipping or quaffing as your constitution allows. Absinthe carries a lovely reputation but is generally rough as aerosols and you're meant to dilute it like pastis so don't go overboard on the strength. Spirits are like wine - you cross a threshold at which the cheap stuff is really separated from the expensive stuff. Above that there's the deeply wonderful stuff for special occasions or the wealthy, but otherwise it's just not worth it. |

Re: It's my round....
Spirits are the devils curse for me. I end up sipping them like I'm drinking pints and get wrecked.
My favourite combo though, is an ice cold strong bottled lager with a dark rum chaser with ice. Bliss! The worse spirit in the world for me is Tequilla, just tastes utter crap. |
Re: It's my round....
try a nice 'woods 100'. you can thank me later :-)

Re: It's my round....
G&T for me or Amaretto and coke
But always happy to have a Jagermeister if its chilly. For my hip flask when skiing, Plum or Sour Apple Schnapps, but not the high alcohol versions, as they're like paint stripper |
