Pitted discs.
 

After my bike has been laid up over winter the discs have accumulated some surface rust.( I must sort out the ventilation in my workshop!) I cleaned off the rust last night with some wire wool and a wire brush. The surface of the disc has now got some minor pitting on the surface. I'm I right on thinking these will still be fine to use? My thinking is that they are drilled discs anyway and some of the wavey discs have massive great holes in them so a bit of pitting isn't going to affect braking performance ..........Is it? I would hope over time braking would get rid of it anyway? Or is it time to meet Mr overdraft again and buy myself some new discs?

i am surprised you didnt just ride the bike and work the brakes. thats what i did and now disc's havent got any rust on them

I would've done but the calipers needed a serious overhaul as they were binding and pistons wouldn't return. All sorted now!

If it's only small pitting I wouldn't worry, few hundred miles they will probably disappear anyway.

That's what I'm hoping Phil! After searching for any answers on google it seems that quite a few Speed Triples have suffered from pitted discs. Triumphs view is that a certain anount of pitting is acceptable and won't affect braking. Good enough for me :)

The surface rust has started to come back after a couple of days. My workshop must be really damp!!

Has it got ventilation Dan?, even though its damp outside, it can be reasonably dry inside but its need ventilation.

Not as such. Its on my list of jobs. At the minute I've just got the window left open but I know this doesn't really create a decent flow of air through the buildiung. I'm thinking that I can just add some vents in the fascia boards front and back??
The buliding is only single skin too which doesn't help. To add to this the roof isn't insulated! just 18mm marine ply with torch on felt.

Ideally, vents either side would be better so it can flow right in and out.
