Gross vehicle weight, Pointy SV?

Hi,

I'm very close to buying a SV (pointy) could someone tell me the GVW as I'm a bit concerned that 2 up (28 stone) plus luggage, we might be over the top.
I'm sure the engine is capable, but don't want to overwhelm the chassis.
(what's the fastest colour, i'm looking at a silver one)

Many thanks.

Silver is the fastest and best.

Any Sv will need the suspension upgraded as its basic to say the least, but the engine is torquey enough to haul you along, the chassis is ok if you upgrade the front and rear shocks

Thanks for the comments & information.
It will be cutting it a bit fine, but with soft luggage and if my Wife leaves the kitchen sink at home, we should be within the limit.
Using soft instead of hard panniers should save a bit of weight I assume, just leaving a top box for a backrest.

You would find the DL650 a bit better, more room for 2 up and luggage.

The service manual states the following from 2003 onwards

SV650 dry weight 167kg
SV650S dry weight 171kg

Re: Gross vehicle weight, Pointy SV?

He means the gross carrying weight, not the weight of the bike. Every bike has a limit of what it can carry weight wise.

The SV is rated at 400kg which includes the bike, which wet weighs in at 200kg give or take a few kg for amount of fuel and any accessories. This then leaves 200kg for rider and pillion and luggage.

The DL650 has a GVWR of 420kg.

Silver as in frame? or panels?

Either way I did not realise there was a difference in speed and quality?

Silver is the worst.
