Are tubular tax disc holders actually legal?
I need a new tax disc holder for my bike as I think the original one came with the bike.. 12 years old and all rotted, which also leaked water all over my old tax disc.
I've seen those tubular tax discs around and they look pretty nifty, nice and discreet. Are they actually legal, because I don't see them around much? https://www.ngales.com/dbimages/tn_1%20(1).jpg |
Re: Are tubular tax disc holders actually legal?
Presuming you can see the relevant information then I can't see them being illegal, I'd guess you don't see too many around as they're overpriced. If you want to be legal they're 99p , if you want your bike to look good/don't want your tax disc nicking you don't have one - you must be in the middle group :)

I wouldn't know where to mount it, but I do like the idea of it being tucked away. Does anyone have any experience of them? Or are they mostly just cheaply made overpriced crap? |

Sorry I don't have any experience with them, just seen people on facebook discussing a branded one on amazon for around £17-£20 though I'm sure they'll pop along shortly |
Re: Are tubular tax disc holders actually legal?
Weird, never even seen one of these then someone posts a photo of one they've just bought on fartbook and you put this thread up! Don't much like them myself, they look like they'll keep clean better than the flat ones, I like mine to be mice and mucky and almost unreadable so it's cleverly camouflaged ;)

Re: Are tubular tax disc holders actually legal?
with the majority of police, i highly doubt you would get done with failing to display, especially on bikes. 9/10 coppers see the ANPR and everything comes back fine and unless they really get arsey, you can just say you've had a tax disc nicked before and carry it under your seat attatched to the sub-frame.
i like the tubey ones tho. might get me one and hide it somewhere under the seat. |

I've got one. I didn't buy it - my brother bought it for his 600rr and couldn't find anywhere to put it so we swapped. Seems pretty well made - so far no problems. I've mounted it on chain side of swing arm using one of the chain guard/ hugger bolts. I'll try take a pic for you.

I'll probably mount it to the pillion peg bolts or something, I don't have my bike with me atm (at uni) so will have to look closer to the time. |
Re: Are tubular tax disc holders actually legal?
They're as common as muck over the pond in France. The French have been using them for donkeys years for keeping their equivalent bits of paper in. Can't remember what it is they call it over there, they don't have tax discs.
