Preparing a bike for touring?
Hi all,
As some of you may know I'm touring the Lake District in April, as it's my first time I just wanted to know what prep you more experienced tourers do to prepare your bikes? |
Re: Preparing a bike for touring?
Make sure that it's mechanically OK:
Oil level, tyre condition, pressures, brake pad thickness, chain condition etc. This is nothing you shouldn't be keeping an eye on anyway. Take with you a lock & chain if you're going to have to park up places you're a bit unsure of, take chain lube, take a little engine oil, take a puncture repair kit. Jambo |
Re: Preparing a bike for touring?
Make sure you have breakdown assistance and the phone number and policy number of said breakdown assistance and your insurance

Re: Preparing a bike for touring?
Just make sure it's well fettled, sort any niggles out. Check the oil, possibly change it if it's due soon etc. etc.

Re: Preparing a bike for touring?
And most importantly, make sure you've enough tread left on your tyres for your projected mileage, tyres wear terribly fast when getting close to worn out.

Re: Preparing a bike for touring?
What about the tyre pressure? stay the same F33 R36 or make slightly harder I.E. F35 R38?

Re: Preparing a bike for touring?
And take adequate 'protection'
