Clutch cover oil leak.
Found a small leak from the clutch cover the other day. I've replaced the o-ring and popped the cover back on but if anything the leak is now worse. Clutch cover on a flat surface shows a slight gap.
Have looked through some of the older threads on this and just wondering if this is a sensible plan of things to try:
Also, what's the difference between gasket sealant and flange sealant? I have a tube of Loctite 5922 Flange sealant - is this suitable? Thanks! |
Re: Clutch cover oil leak
Yep they all do that at one time of another.
Check torque settings as if too tight it can warp the plastic case. Check the plastic tophat lugs that go between the screw and the casing are flush with the base of the case, I have had them stretch and be too long so the need filling back You can use a surface table to file the face back to flat if you have access to one. Never got on with the loctite stuff meself, threebond works well though http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_fr...All-Categories Ducati, Yamaha and Honde use the same stuff but rebadge it and charge a bit more for the privelage |
Re: Clutch cover oil leak
Cured my leak by removing the cover and cleaning of all traces of old sealant and refitting with the original o-ring without sealant, the key seems to be to use the specified torque (seems really light) and threadlock on the screws. Mines been leak free for over a year now:D

Re: Clutch cover oil leak
I tried a few suggestions and it still leaked. I bought some rubber from Ebay, 5mm , and cut it to length. Fitted it dry, and it hasn't leaked since, bone dry. I didn't have the money to buy a new cover, and sealant didn't work, and looked really messy. This is the stuff..

Re: Clutch cover oil leak.
surface table = sheet of glass or cheep marble chopping board + grinding paste and move in a figure of 8.
used to use the same to flush off t2 heads. |
