My new project

Well, Custard has gone to a new home (Glad you're enjoying the bike Byron :)) & The Triumph didn't sell on Ebay, so is staying in the family. I had the chance to buy this 1996 CBR600 cheap. Completely standard, crash damaged, but eveything is nice & straight. It was only the front top fairing, clocks & headlamp that were damaged. I don't know whether to track it, or build something a bit special for the road. Poor thing has been left outside for the last 8 months, I'm hoping that the discs will clean up, just looks like surface rust. Anyway, here is project "Snotter"

Full rebuild?

Col, build a bike that can do both

Yup, will be a full rebuild. I am going to leave the engine in 1 lump though, don't touch what's not broken I think, just needs a good clean.
Bidding on a 916 tail piece & 954 Fireblade fairings at the moment, just have to wait to see if I win them :)
Possibly black frame & maybe...Luminous green paint :)

You may get it clean with steam.

Interested to see what you do to the cbr after the many guises of custard. Starting to fancy a 'project' but lack of garage stops me for now :)

I always have visions in my head of the finished project, but this one's stumping me. I'll just play it by ear.

I work out of a shed (you can see what a dump my yard is) so you dont need a garage ;)

I see you have the same shed as myself with the same missing/optional windows ;) I usually work under a big umbrella/parasol thing in the garden if the sky looks a bit dodgy but for a project i fancy a powered man cave i can hide in.

I'll be honest. I bought a big shed off Fleabay a few years ago that has taken up most of the yard, the little one in the picture wants taking apart & chucking away.
So, here is my little workshop now. I drag an extension from the kitchen so have got power when required.

Thought I would update this as I have been sourcing parts left, right & centre. The Idea I now have (after thinking about making it a cheap track bike) is to get her back on the road, but, as with Custard, with a twist.

Ok, here we are. I have completely stripped her down to just a rolling chassis & I've started with an Aprilia RS125 bikini fairing & Harris Clip ons.

My son said it looked like an off roader, so have dropped the fairing down an inch or so.

Front mudgaurd was broken, so have pared it down. I am going to have a play to make it look more "modern". I've bought a Dremel to do some cutting etc.

Brake discs are EBC Prolite, so I'm hoping that they will clean up ok. I have cleaned the calipers, they came up really well.

After.

Fitted my Gixxer1000 tail light.

Just waiting for my Gixxer1000 seat & tail unit, the bloke at UK Road & Race was very cagey when I rang him the other day to say that I hadn't received it, so just hoping that I haven't been shafted.

I've also picked up a CBR600 F4i set of clocks, which, the Americans assure me, virtually wire straight in.

Just looking at how they should look when fitted properly. I'm on the lookout for some Aluminium sheeting to make a mount for it.

That's it for the time being. I am going to try & make a belly pan out of the original fairing panels, so will see how that turns out.
