Rear Cylinder Fireing Problem
Okay so I've noticed that my 2000 Sv650 sounded like a single cylinder bike. But it's still pretty quick. gets to about 90 mph then takes a lot to get any more.
I took the cap off the spark plugs front, and then back. It runs on the front okay but the rear has problems revving and doesn't idle. I checked the spark plug, only the tiniest spark, got a new plug same problem. Is it likely to be a new coil then. I cleaned all the contacts and everything but no luck there. |
Re: Rear Cylinder Fireing Problem

Re: Rear Cylinder Fireing Problem
Swapping bits round, if you can, between cylinders will help you find the problem part.

Re: Rear Cylinder Fireing Problem
Right, so I just switched the Caps round from front and back. Same ol' problem no/very little spark. Put back together front still sparks good.
Can only assume it's the rear coil then? Any other factors? |
Re: Rear Cylinder Fireing Problem
Got a new ignition coil. New spark plugs in. Tested sparks front and back again and looking pretty perfect. Great sparks all round.
But same problem. Apart from being smoother on the throttle that's it. Still sounds like a single. isn't as powerfull as it should be. Petrol is getting to both cylinders I just have no idea? Anybody? |
Re: Rear Cylinder Fireing Problem
Maybe start checking the inlet rubbers and hoses for splits.

Re: Rear Cylinder Fireing Problem
I was thinking of taking apart the carbs and giving the Jets and Bowls a clean. So I guess I'll see any splits etc while I'm in there.

Re: Rear Cylinder Fireing Problem
Not necessarily. The tiniest split or leak can cause problems.
I reckon that and carbs are your next step. Might be out of balance too. |
