Golf

I played my first ever round of golf with my old man today. I suggested it a while back. I figured I'd try to do some father son bonding before he dies. Ain't I sweet? :D I went out a couple of times and blasted 100 golf balls down a driving range and then finally played my first round today.

My my, was it horrifically tedious! Admittedly, I'm not very good at the moment, and fluff every other shot, but there's a lot of walking and lugging clubs about for 10 seconds of mild amusement. I'm a bit concerned I may hate golf, but my old man seems well up for us playing more often.

So are there any other golfers here? And if so, what makes golf fun for you? Is it the course, the weather, the company, or the challenge? What makes it crap? I don't want to jack it in before I give it a fair go. Give me some encouragement and advice, pleaaaaaase! :smt023

best part - 19th hole, getting away from everything for 4 hours, golf buggies

worse part- snotty membership, snotty members, shoes.

Used to love playing a round with friends and having a laugh..never took it seriously which was the best bit..I carry a trowel and grass seeds with me ;)

oh and good on your for getting out there with the old man

In the words of Mark Twain: Golf is a good walk spoiled.

And what I really don't understand is the attire. Who decided this was a good look?

Played a few rounds with my friends I ride with, quickly realised I would be better off sticking to the courses where you knock it through the windmill

I played basically everyday from the age of about 11 to 19. I loved the sport it ruled my life and I end up playing a a semi decent level for my club.

For me, I found playing golf was about going out and improving how you play. Setting goals and trying to get there. There's no better feeling that visualising that shot and then standing over the ball and actually doing it.

Remember golf is a b*tch of a game, if you get too smug about it she's gonna bite you and bring you down a peg or two...

The other side to golf is its about meeting people and getting contacts (so a bit like the masons - without the goat ;))

Sometimes for 5 days, and at the end it's a draw. But we do stop every day for tea.

Played for 44 years, and still love it. The early years are fun as you come on leaps and bounds... I'll stop now before you're all bored
