Where did you buy your fork springs?
The time has come to fit the emulators to my curvy. I also want to buy new springs. I know I'm looking for linear springs, im around 12st fully kitted up so from what i gather from info on the forum is i will need 0.8 springs. Is that 0.8N/mm by the way? I like to ride my bike agressively and i do a considerable amount of miles with a 55kg pillion. What oil do i need?
I found some springs on ebay, but thats about it. Where did you buy yours? Are there websites online or did you need to go to a shop? It would be great to be able to compare before i buy. Sorry to ask those questions again, but i couldn't find any info on where to buy. |
Re: Where did you buy your fork springs?
I got mine from k-tech in Coalville, Leicestershire. Their springs are linear.
I went there to collect since it's reasonably local-ish to me. At the time they didn't have 0.8 in stock so I had 0.85, I'm the same weight as you and I find the springs fine, so maybe consider 0.85 yourself. |
Re: Where did you buy your fork springs?
K-Tech springs (from their web site, posted). I'm 12 stone kitted and went for 0.85 (being the closest K-tech did for the Racetech calculator) and they are ideal for me. Fork oil used as listed in my signiture!

Re: Where did you buy your fork springs?
I have some spare 0.8 Ktec springs if your interested?

Re: Where did you buy your fork springs?
The front end and handling is transformed! So much better. The spring rate suits well, much firmer with less dive but not harsh. But would not go any harder.

Re: Where did you buy your fork springs?
I would recommend either 10 or 15W oil, although as you may know this totally depends on the brand you choose and the style/type of riding you plan on doing, I used 20W on the track during warmer weather. If you find the spring rate slightly out, you could also tweak the air gap/oil level to fine tune things as you need.

Flymo, where would you recommend is a good place to start with oil? Give me a brand and weight and air gap if you can. |
Re: Where did you buy your fork springs?
I would be tempted to go with the heavier oil if you are braking fairly heavily and carry a pillion, so something like a Silkolene or Rock Oil 15W would be a good starting point. Air gap something like 120/130mm with emulators (measured with the emulators in but no springs, fork stanchion fully compressed)

Re: Where did you buy your fork springs?
Thanks, ill start there.
I have messaged K-Tech on ebay and through their website inquiring about 0.85s for the curvy. I will wait for their reply hopefully tomorrow and then order from them unless anyone has any better suggestions. |
