The Bike Experience - An update
Prompted by the first TBE event of 2012 on April 25th, I thought I'd jot down a bit of an update for you. I'll try to be brief, I know the attention span of riders is not great and there are a good few new members on here this year. ;-)
If you do a search on here / Youtube and facebook, you'll find other bits and pieces of info' about us The Bike Experience Charity was founded by Talan Skeels-Piggins in 2011, an ex Naval officer disabled in a motorbike accident some years ago. Talans desire to get back on a bike was compelling and with a combination of trial and error, determination, technology and ingenuity he managed it. Not satisfied with personal achievement he initiated The Bike Experience charity last year. We've been running events for disabled guys n gals last year at Castle Coombe, Snetterton and Odiham Airfield. Our goal is to get disabled peeps back on bikes, to help them realise a dream they thought was beyond them. It's not about racing it's about The Bike Experience but we are intrinsically linked and drawn to the track environment as Castle Coombe and track day organisers have been so supportive to our cause. We've had ex racers, moped riders and road riders come to us last year and it was an absolute privilege to meet and work with all of them. You can find out more on the links below at the bottom of the post. Anyway; some highlights of 2012 before our first event on April 25th at Castle Coombe. 1. Talan was granted an ACU race licence and will be lining up at selected events in the UK. 2. Talan and a couple of other disabled guys launched Revenge Racing and are competing in Endurance racing at Assen in August 3. Team TBE was started by a great supporter of TBE - Steve Dyke and his cousin Tom Dyke. They are clearly inbred, genetically malformed individuals but they are great guys and racing in the Bemsee minitwins events this year. They are carrying the TBE flag to raise awareness of TBE and have a few laughs and thrills on the way. 4. TBE have been lucky enough to have been loaned two Aprilla Mana Bikes by Aprilla and an SV650 by Suzuki GB. These will replace add to our ageing SV650's we used last year that have seen better days. 5. Spike Edwards (ace racer) helped us last year and this year we are building on the track/ racing fraternity and taking the message to CSS in the US and elsewhere. Now I'm waffling..........must stop. So.....if you want to help at our events , (we need lots of help, mechanical and catching/ launching riders) PM me or contact us through the Facebook links. Or and importantly if you have any leathers, gloves, boots, paddock stands or any track paraphernalia you can otherwise donate then superb, please let us know and feel the lurve,......... we need lots of everything If for instance you might be able to help with Web design, design of promotional material (flyers etc), if you can even just "Like" The Bike Experience" facebook page and "Team TBE" page it all helps to raise awareness and promotes the charity. Anyway, just for info really rather than a plea, we're set for a great year, without sounding cheesy the riders have been through an unbelievable struggle and for so many getting back on a bike represents a massive mental leap. They do it, we just help. If you can help a bit as well then much appreciated. Cheers all, sorry for the blah blah... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiQUhjUW_g4 https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-B...01810996578296 https://www.facebook.com/TeamTBE http://web.me.com/tskeelspiggins/Dis...xperience.html |
