Cost of getting wheels painted?
hi everyone!
Thinking about getting wheels painted black. Just wondering if anyone has had this done or knows how much it costs? Cheers |
Re: Cost of getting wheels painted
powder coated is normally about £40 per wheel But if you want them painted do them yourself its easy aslong as you can take the discs off..good luck

Re: Cost of getting wheels painted?
Powercoat them
As muddydude say's it around £40 per wheel if you do all the strip on them. I know my local dealers both deal with a powercoater who collects and delivers to there workshops |
Re: Cost of getting wheels painted?
Black powder coated wheels, swing arm, forks and frame with either deep red or gun metal grey tank and bodywork looks excellent. If only I could afford to. (This is for a Curvy by the way)

Re: Cost of getting wheels painted?
although powdercoat is a more durable finish to start with; I've found on wheels it tends to get stone chipped, once this happens (if you're not quick to catch it/a small dab of clear nail varnish seals it again) water gets under it and ruins a far larger area, normal paint doesn't suffer the same way so touchups can be left longer and are far easier, as others have said, you don't need to do a perfect job when painting them, you don't even need to remove the tyre, just release the pressure and mask up under the rim then re-inflate once done.
Cheers Mark. |
Re: Cost of getting wheels painted?
Agree with Rictus. I had my wheels powdercoated several years ago. The rear one chipped and to be honest i didnt catch it, not the rear is stripping itself quite happily. Oh, and never paint them anything other than black.
I probably would still have them redone as it lasted about 4 years, which for me is about 30k |
Re: Cost of getting wheels painted?
I agree with Mark's double posting
Once powder coat get's chipped, then it'll start to flake off. It'll stay soft underneath so a clumsy tyre fitter could easily ruin your fresh powdercoat when re-fitting your tyres. Also you'll have to remove the wheel bearings before you get the wheels powdercoated, whereas if you paint them, you can just mask the bearings off |
Re: Cost of getting wheels painted?
thanks everyone for all your answers. My Uncle is a painter for historic sports cars and used to work for BAR f1 team in paint shop so i asked him for ball park fiqure. He said, if i take him just the wheels with everything off But not tyre, he charge £80 but for £120 i can just drop the bike at his.
