SV650 custom build - model identity?
 

Afternoon one and all.

I'm starting a new project building something similar to this.....

...but using an SV650 frame and engine as base. Spoked supermoto wheels, Ducati 996 front end, CBR1000rr swingarm and suspension, underseat exhaust, one off sub frame, minimalist bodywork.....stripped and purposeful in appearance.

I'm looking for some clarification on model years/designation and parts interchangeability.

I'm looking at using one of the fabricated oval tube frames (based on looks) which AFAIK was used from '99 to '03, but which model/models - K..? - does this cover?

Is any engine from an oval tube bike compatible with any oval tube frame?

Lastly, would a Wiseco 694cc big bore and a mild gas flow give decent bang-for-buck and reliability with no other tuning?

99-02, x,y,k1,k2.
"Curvy" model.

Yes any engine from these years are effectively the same.


You can also actually use the later engines by changing several parts.

Following also!

Personally port polishing and a set of JHS/ Kent cams will give better reliability.
Spoked wheel rotors are available from the US

You can always go get a set mad to suit which may be better, you can get a spoked rim and rotor to suit the SV http://www.procycle.us/bikepages/sv650.html

over a big bore, should have clarified. YC you've got stage 2's in yours?

For my money I would use pointy or 01-2 cases, don't go into motor, fit FCR39 (or 41 for track) and pointy cam swap.

Yeah I have stage 2s, they are good but not sure I would pay new prices. Maybe couple of hp more than pointy cams.


Is this a track bike or a road bike?

Twin discs are overkill IMO. A decent caliper and master cylinder with a single large disc will give ample stopping power and fade resistance for a bike with the power output and intended usage of the SV I'm building.

It's going to be road and occasional track bike, but not for any serious competitive track usage. My racing days are long gone, I just want something that's a bit different and isn't going to get me locked up with bigger boys who don't play nice if I decide to wring its' neck.
