Route advice to Poland (oi dyziowg!)

Possibly heading down from Halifax to Tarnowskie Gory, about 50mi NW of Krakow.

Anyone done similar?

I'd probably do it over 2 days, maybe 3 coming back. Going near start of June.

Can tell you how not to get there! Long story, plane to Ostrava miltary air base in Czech Rep, taxi, train to Katowice, train to Krakow via Tarnowskie Gory (yes, wrong way), then another taxi. Took me 24 hours to get from Edinburgh to Krakow, in three feet of snow, and I nearly got arrested at gunpoint, funny story for another time.

Krakow worth a visit and you won't be that far from Auschwitz.

Hello :)

Motorways or normal roads? Which ferry?

I dunno, I'm a bit soft in my old age so about 12 hours riding a day is enough, what do you reckon there is time for to manage it in 2 days?

Amsterdam, Germany Poland surely init boss

Longer ferry trip but most direct and I'd assume the extra time on the ferry could be put to good use in a bar.
Set off from here time it so ferry gives you a night in Amsterdam and then brwaarrprpppppppp through zie german autobahn and boom ploski before bed.

NB: I have no idea if these times are realistic but google earth makes the world look tiny so anything seems possible :D
In fact Amsterdam to Krakow is 11hrs 52mins according to google directions, perfectly do-able.

2 days, sure.

I took the Newcastle - Amsterdam ferry, left Amst. around 11am and got on the German motorway, was trying to do 100mph+ whenever I could, but I hit some torrential rain on the way and got a bit lost due to roadworks.

Stayed in Boleslawiec for the night and hit the motorway again. I was in Zywiec (60 miles south of TG) before noon.

I took the motorway all the way, but that was more about getting home than riding.
Around 600 miles in day one, riding through Dortmund, Kassel, Leipzig - aparently less boring and less restricted than the route towards Berlin.
~250miles on the second day.

I found some non motorway routes through the Reich, I'll have a look for that site.

Cost of ferry is important :)

I was thinking cheap ferry from Dover. But then again a different ferry would mean less petrol.

The Newcastle Amsterdam ferry was the best I was on as far as "relaxing" is concerned. Be careful at the bar,Grolsh served from an ice bucket... mmmmmm :D

If you want to get to TG in 1 go, you'd be looking at 12h (google) in the saddle at high pace. That means you'd be arriving around midnight or later if you're delayed.
It's definitely doable, I know of some folk who travel via Dover in one go, but you're looking at 24h in the saddle. A bit hardcore if you ask me.
