French roadside speed cameras
Of course I know that like myself all the .orgers are law abiding sedate riders who would recoil in horror at the very thought of contravening any road laws regardless of where they are riding but a "friend" of mine recently visited France on his bike. While riding along a nice piece of country road "my friend" was flashed by a road-side fixed camera. Now we've all heard stories about being frog-marched to a cash-point when caught by a gendame with a hand-held device but does anybody know if there are any repercussions of being got by a fixed road-side camera?
Back home now and a bit nervous each time the letterbox rattles in case it's a nasty note from France demanding money. The Internet seems a bit vague but I'm sure many folks on here have "friends" who may have on occasion been a tad too brisk on a French D-Road and been flashed. Are they now paupers or did nothing ever come of it? |
Re: French roadside speed cameras
Don't worry nothing will happen. I got flashed a few times last year, once going a "little faster" then the legal limit. I was like you, worried. In the end nothing came of it.
Also on our recent trip Metalhead got flashed in front of me on a dual carriageway, and unless he tells me different I believe nowt came of that either! |
Re: French roadside speed cameras
I was with dan on that trip in a car, and you will not see any post from france. Cops with speed guns and frog marched to a cash point, wouldnt suprise me, unless it was strike day ;)
Was driving a little quick over there just once mind, two bikes appeared in the mirror, tanking it. I think nowt of it (thinking its dan and phil) but it was two bike cops. I pulled to the right and they passed and thanked me. I didnt even ease off lol. love it. I think we saw you get flashed dan but i cant be 100% sure. |
Re: French roadside speed cameras
Got flashed in Germany and Holland and France, nothing happened.
Maybe I was just very lucky |
Re: French roadside speed cameras
Just saw this in Visordown:
"It’ll cruise all day at 100mph if your bank balance can stand the fines. Oh, and on that note, it is possible to get caught speeding at Peage stations on elapsed time. I always thought that was a myth. Let me tell you, categorically, it isn’t." http://www.visordown.com/road-tests/...#ixzz1w9xhWrph Good to know I think as others on this forum have previously said this is a myth. |
Re: French roadside speed cameras
History Lesson:
This time 1973 coming back from Austrian GP ( cars ), the other Goodyear truck was stopped by German Polizei - it landed at the side and waved guns at them! The paperwork was A2 sized, but all ended well. The driver circled the biggest number on the page ( think it was copshop phone ) converted it from Dm to £££ & claimed that on his expenses. Made a thumping profit! :p |

I'll let "my friend" know he can relax a bit. |

So to hear from recent experience that it wasn't is useful to me (even though I doubt my SV could go that fast between the Peages anyway :D) |
