I was going to do a how to on valve clearances when I do mine which will be very soon.

Why do you have to replace the clutch plates? are they causing a problem?

I hope the plates aren't a necessity to replace, mines at 37k. If you do need to do it I took mine out a while ago when I was fixing the basket & it's a reallllly easy one. I'm sure someone will confirm if they need doing.....

lol. that was quick!

One thing I would say is if you do a coolant change at the same time as the valve clearances then you can take the radiator off which makes things a whole lot easier round the front.

Just done the valve check and adjust myself for the first time replacing 3 shims. I used the Haynes manual and had no problems following it. Taking the radiator off was good advice as it meant less hassle accessing the front cylinder. Haynes said to take off the throttle bodies to access the front cylinder cam chain tensioner, but I didn't to be honest as with a bit of fiddling and the right tools you can access it.

Leave the clutch alone if there's nothing wrong with it, it isn't a BMW

Check the plates against net guides and if they arent worn then overhaul the whole mech and refit.
