Haggis Nibblers
In a mad state of Joy , I bought a Haggis . It is one of those ones that is wrapped in a plastic thingy with instructions on steaming or Microwaving etc . I was just wondering (and don`t berate me for not buying a fresh one from such and such a place) .... those that do eat it , how do you cook yours and what do you have with it ? . I succumbed to some battered sausages from the same maker and am gonna serve it up with some sort of Condiment .

Re: Haggis Nibblers
boil it in its wrapping cook for about 35-45mins cut open and eat on it's own or with mashed tatties and turnip.
or cut in 2 remove 1/2 from wrapper cover in batter then deep fry it. stick other half in fridge for next night. |
Re: Haggis Nibblers
Well I currently have it in one of those Halogen ovens as I don`t wanna fire up the big oven . I stripped the cover off and wrapped it loosely in foil and have it warming in there ..... kitchen smells lovely

Re: Haggis Nibblers
that'll do just nicely. now get the tatties and neeps done. lots of butter when mashing the tatties and neeps and add some pepper to the neeps.

Re: Haggis Nibblers
Don`t have any Neeps at the mo , that will require another shopping trip . The Battered Snags will do for tonight . When I was in Edinburgh I had this with "Spicy Sauce" .... it seemed like Brown Sauce watered down with Vinegar to a drunken Welshman , but does this have a name and a specific recipe as such ?

Re: Haggis Nibblers
chip shop brown sauce made by gold star. asda sell it and to get the proper chippy taste you have to empty 1/4 out and add water or indeed vinegar as it's to thick as it comes.

Re: Haggis Nibblers
you must be talking about "chippy sauce"
brown sauce from chip shops is very vinegary other way to cook kind of haggis you bought is to remove plastic wrapping and cut haggis up then put into microwave and blast it in there. serve with mashed potatoes and turnip for a delicious meal |
Re: Haggis Nibblers
The brown sauce in local chippys here is a mix of gold star brown & the vinegar left over from the last empty pickle jar before they chuck it.

Re: Haggis Nibblers
Just unwrapped the foil and the Haggis has a crispy skin on the outside and it just fell apart when I forked it , just gonna give the internals a couple of minutes in the oven and I`m serving up
