Southern 100 2012

So I'm now back and recovered from a 10 hour journey back home.

As everyone at GM knew and will have heard (if you were still drunk from the Saturday) I was on the mad dash south for the Port. As some know its about 130 miles to Lancaster/ Heysham, I got from Castle Douglas to the Port in about 2h 10m including fuel stops!
The boat was late departing and we got held at Douglas as port was running late! Eventually got up to Peel for about 7pm, bloody hell I was knackered.

With the Southern being evening Races (except for the Thursday), the days were spent exploring the Island, of course the Mountain Circuit was done several times (tis rude not to :takeabow:) and I went round on the Monday morning and the Wednesday taking it easy and getting pics like this around the course.

There is more to the island than the TT course. But the roads a proper A and B roads outside of the circuits and take skill and high levels of idiocy to ride at National speeds, my god they are rough!

But you get the pleasure of the roads like the A14 (Sulby to Snaefell) A27 (Peel to Colby) and the A36 (Port Erin)

I'll finish this off later on, as I've got to sort a few jobs out!

Right time to finish this off!

The Southern 100 is also know as the Friendly Races, for that reason there is an atmosphere that is missing from a lot of race venues and classes. How many grandstands cost £3 to access and fans are allowed into Scrutineering paddocks and race paddocks, for free!
The Southern 100 is funded through the donations and hard work of the organisers and the volunteers, so anyone that is thinking about going go buy the shirts, the programmes and put in the buckets when they go past!

With the size of the course there is any amount of viewing and vantage spots. Its subject to the typical road racing restrictions.

Cracking shots Andy & nice to meet you & yes, to anybody that's thinking about the TT, give the Southern a 2nd glance, it's cheaper & just as much fun, especially with mass starts & only 4.25 miles around :)

It was nice to meet you and your lovely missus.
I was surprised how many did come out even as Billown (I ditched about 4 pics)

I looked on Guy's feed and one of the semi pro's has got some stonking ones from the garage on the opposite side of Church

I think there must have been speed in the coffee I had at the GAC.
What makes it funnier I went through Lancaster (which is like London and is all traffic lights) and got to the port quicker than a few guys that left the same forecourt 10 minutes before me
