Average price for replacement number plate?
 

Hi, i've just bought an sv650 but the number plate is illegal, perhaps by an inch smaller in height and width, if that. Even so, I don't want to get bothered by police. What sort of places can I get a standard number plate with the same registration made up and how much should I expect to pay?

From what I understand it's not to do with the size of the numberplate itself, its to do with the size of the lettering, so your plate may not actually be illegal. Look up the sizes on the directgov site

The size of the plate is determined by law in a sneaky way.

Each character has to be a certain size and have a certain size gap in between.

Hence the 9x8 plate. However 99% of police are ok with a 8x7

Edit : just realised I didn't answer your question. I buy them from a MOT garage near me but you get the delivered for around £6 on eBay.

if you get a private number with 1 letter then 2 numbers with 3 letters then you can have a smaller plate. if money is no object then you can have a very small plate with 1 letter and 1 number.

Its about £20 for a BS AU compliant plate. Plate alone is £5 before anything else

There is no defined or legal requirement for the outer dimensions of a number pate.
I have a standard number plate which is only 6 1/2 x 8 but 100% legal in font,spacing etc
