Popping the cherry....
Ha ha you will be disapointed now...it's only that I will go and race in my first race, on my SV.
There is no big club racing thing here in Norway, there is Superbike, Superstock 600, rookie 1000, rookie 600 and National(any bike older then 6 years),first two classes are A riders, last three classes are B riders. This year they are trying a new thing, C-class a entry level thing, and for people how's not taken points as a B rider the last 10 years. You can even ride your street bike with just a few race preps. Lockwire oil plug, cap, brake calip. bolts, only water as coolant fluid, mirrors must be taken off, brake lights disabled, tape over lights etc... The doctor approved my physical on thursday, license application was sent thursday evening, race will be 11th of August. I will must likely be racing against 600, 750 and 1000cc in-line fours, so I shouldn't stand a chance, but I will not be last, if I don't crash, atleast that's my goal. |
Re: Popping the cherry....
You'll have a great laugh wherever you finish, racing is the business no matter what level or ability. Get some pics of your bike race prepped, and some of the opposition and the track too, and definitely tell us how you get on whatever happens.
What's the track called, and what's it like - long/short straights, tight curves or what? I think we should be told. |
Re: Popping the cherry....
It's Våler (oh geez he put a funny looking letter into that one) Banen(Track). http://www.vaalerbanen.no/side.aspx?pid=11
It's 2.3km short, I went there last year for 2 days to take the Norwegian NMF(ACU I guess in the UK?) traning/racing license course, 1 day classroom, 1 day on track. I know the track well enoughish 3*20min in the dry and 20 min in the wet on hypersport tyres... Funny thing with this track is that start is on one side and finishline is on the other side, so you do 1 1/2 scruteneering lap. |
Re: Popping the cherry....
I've found out my oppositions bikes, the list don't look good in my favour, a 996, a R1, a older blade 919, a R6, GSX-R 750, CBR600, ZX6-R, but I got a good start nr. #66, should be good for some extra bhp, no?

Re: Popping the cherry....
OK so on hp you're going to get blown away, however that means every bike you pass is an even bigger victory.
Happy hunting. Found a video of the circuit, looks fun: Click me. PS. Pics of bike etc, we're waiting... |
Re: Popping the cherry....
Good luck. If you really enjoy it which no doubt you will. I don't race but alot of club racer that start to take it seriously forget that keeping fit is a big part of taking your ability to the next level so hitting the gym a day or 2 a week will go a long way.
Im sure you knew that though |
I hate misleading titles :p
But yeah, good luck! Stay safe :) |

Cherry popped!
I came in 8th out of 10, so thats ok considering what the sv was up against. I started the weekend on 1.14.6, was faster each session, and ended up on 1.11.7 as best laptime set in the race and most laps where mid to low 1.12
For the second time on this track with the SV I think it's ok, race pace for the winner off the Stock 600 race 1 was 1.00, slowest was 1.09, in National(bikes 6 six years or older) best 600 did 1.02, slowest did 1.17 Friday 3 practice sessions 20 min each. Saturday warm-up/qual. 20 min and 1 race 10 laps, watched one race then packed up and drove home, was home 03:30. Have not bothered packing out of the car yet, still tired. Second session was red flagged, two people went out, they traded paint and both went out. Third session was cut short for me as the pin on the gear lever broke:smt104 Was going to nock it into a gear higher(still on street gearing) but it never went up, started feeling around, no bl00dy pin. Was a busy evening, I'de forgotten to do the rear caliper bolts up with lockwire and luckily I brought the orginal footpegs from gixer, the gear lever is identical, then off to technical and get it approved. I enjoyed myself, we had a good barbie and a few cold ones. Sorry for no pics, they will hopefully be posted during this week. |
