Lowside - what an idiot
 

I have been riding for 14 months and consider myself to be a reasonable rider but I am still trying to figure out why I managed to lowside the bike on the way to work this morning.. I have taken the right hander plenty of times before, granted it is a sharp bend and the road surface uneven but I just do not know why I decided to take a handful of front brake after feeling like I would not make the corner. Damage to RH faring, mirror, indicator, helmet and back of jacket. Thankfully I had just fitted a back protector so no physical damage, except a small graze to my right elbow, but I am more concerned about my confidence. They do say there are two kind of riders: once that have crashed and ones that will. Looks like I have just moved camps. I have ordered a new indicator and talked to a body shop about repairing the fairing. I suppose I will see how things go.

don't worry everyone does it at some point. main thing is you survived to chalk it up to experience.

Bugger, glad you're ok dude.

The right hander is near the north side of a small village called wentworth on the way to elsecar. I tend to take a 30 mile detour on my way to work at parkgate, rotherham.

Elbow down! Well done, I'm already in awe :)

Firstly, you've survived to think and talk about it. Secondly, sounds like you analysed the mistake already. Thirdly, you've acknowledged that the bike was probably capable of making the corner. I say chalk this one down to experience and move on. Keep riding and you will get your confidence back.

Thank you all for the support, I find it difficult to imagine a life without bikes but when I was dragging the bike out of the ditch and riding on to work I was contemplating the option. I hope it will just be another part of the learning process.

It happens to all of us when we bin it man - you spend a few hours (or days) thinking that you'll sell it. You'll spend a few weeks (or months) hesitant on the bike in similar situations, then you'll learn to trust your bike in the hope that you've learnt from the mistake. Unless there was something mechanically wrong with the bike, it's rarely going to be the fault of anyone but the rider - I know it was both times I laid it down - and every time I've watched a friend lay theirs down.

Get back on it, and use it as a learning tool. Expensive lesson, but a good one nonetheless.
