psycho driver

Well I had thoroughly novel and concerning experience en route. There I was riding along, steady line of traffic, keeping the average distance from the car in front, minding my own business when a van behind me starts to beep. I'm thinking I've not done anything so I ignore him. He carries on and proceeds to shout all kinds of profanities. Still puzzled. No idea what I'm supposed to have done. I hear something about me being too slow, which was truly baffling as I was about one or two car lengths from the car in front of me so not sure where I was supposed to speed up... Felt nervous cos he could hit me on purpose which he looked like he was capable of easily. Not to mention his van was full of kids watching him shout all kinds of names at me. At the nearest opportunity I made swift progress forward; wanted to get as far away from this mad man. So he was suck some ten cars behind me and not going any faster. Truly, truly bizarre.....

Get a louder exhaust, can't get bothered about what you can't hear ;)

There are to$$pots all over the place, least you know you can get away from them on the bike!

I was just gobsmacked at how bizarre it was! It's not like I was going slow. I was in a line of traffic, small ish/narrow road so I stuck with everyone rather than filter. As soon as I was able to break away I did. I truly cannot understand as he wouldn't be able to go any faster even if I wasn't there as there was a line of cars. Just a madman. Nothing more nothing less. And the kids in his van...... jeeze!

I always slow down and start waving people into the gap in front of me.

Then when there's a nice new long line of cars and the person behind is going mental I turn round, give a cheery wave and filter off into the distance.

I'll play nice if there's do but if you annoy me I'll waste some time letting you know the consequences.

Probably just wanted an excuse to take his frustration all those kids were causing out on someone and you were in the wrong place at the wrong time  Least you didn't get too annoyed to cause a confrontation like some folk might have done, he probably just wanted a reaction from you.

The thing is, there was no gap for him to go into. That's what's so strange about his anger

I did shout back at him about tailgating and he was just doing the "tossing" gesture with his hand out of his window. Classy!
I decided to calm down cos it's not worth it. If I ride angry it may affect my judgement so I let it go. In the end I overtook everyone as soon as I was able to and he was left faaaar behind....

Some people are just crazy.

They think that moving a few foot forwards makes a difference.

Most important thing is not to get angry yourself, just smile and treat it all as a game. Getting angry will just ruin your afternoon.

Exactly. Lovely day, listening to music, sunshine, riding to box hill, all hunky dory then he turns up. Thankfully forgot about him very quickly :)
