Sprocket sizes? Curvy.
 

I am not the most technical guy but am interested in changing the sprockets and chain. I have a 2001 SV650S and it needs a new chain. Original with 16k on it. I was inquiring and was told to give the bike more torque I should replace the rear sprocket with one with 2 less teeth. What size should I use and how complicated is it to find what I need? Thanks for any help you guys and girls can give.

Less teeth at the back will give quicer aceleration if I'm right and you will find them at any motorcycle shop

Make sure you get a decent chain as well :)

less teeth at the back will give you a higher top speed and slower acceleration. You want to either lose a tooth on the front or gain them on the back.
Think of them like push bike gears

Stick with the stock settings, what you get by changing the chain and sprocket sizes is nothing in the real world.

It's all down to how you use what you have.

If you have an SVS with the suspension sorted you will only lose out to any super bike in a straight line.

That's power you loose out on.

But for best results, stick to the sprocket and chain sizes for a SVS.

Uprate the forks, in my case slightly higher viscose oil and slightly longer spacers did it.

Not GSXR front ends you see on here!

I did add preload adjusters to my 2001 bike, but not to adjust the preload.

But any slack that might appear in the springs!

I recently changed the chain and sprockets on my pointy.

I did a 520 chain conversion which is a little lighter, and I went for 16 tooth front 44 tooth rear renthal sprockets.

This is one bigger than stock front and one smaller than stock back.


It made a hell of a difference for me. It pulls a lot nicer through the box, And revs a little slower. So you won't change gear as quick under hard acceleration.
