Scottoiler setting query.
Is there anything i should do differently with the settings of my scottoiler or any pitfalls i should be aware of, when using old engine oil in it instead of the bought chain oil?
TIA Scotty |
Re: Quick Scottoiler query
Keep an eye on it, adjust flow rate as needed. I'd start with whatever's working for you currently

Re: Quick Scottoiler query
set it to minimum, fill every 500 miles or week, that's it.

Re: Scottoiler setting query.
FWIW I recommend the proper scottoil - I don't know what your setup is like but mine puts a bit of oil on the rear tyre edge and the scottoil comes off very easily (got detergent in it) whereas engine oil will hang about for ever make it slippery as hell :O Having said that many have used it successfully...

Re: Scottoiler setting query.
I use old engine oil with no probs - just takes a bit of trial and error to get the setting exactly right so you don't get any splatter on the back wheel.
Also bear in mind that it will need adjusting seasonally as the viscosity of the oil changes with the change in temp. |
Re: Scottoiler setting query.
Been using a scottoiler for a year now, fabulous piece of kit - I am just getting to needing to adjust the chain from last august! Still got the original oil that came with the box so I haven't used engine oil yet, but I read somewhere that chainsaw oil costs about 1/3 the price of scottoils proprietary stuff and is just as good.
Aim for 1 drop every 30-40 seconds, and as chriscurvy has said, be aware that temperature will affect the flow rate |
