New(ish) user
Hi there everyone. I've been a member for while but only recently (August) passed my test. Knew I was going to get an SV for ages before then so bought one the day after passing. I got a silver SK3 with a lovely Remus carbon fibre can already fitted. No history but only 5k miles. £2.2k. It'd been sat in some chaps shed for the last 5 years, but with mileage that low I thought there couldn't be that much wrong with it thats a good service couldn't sort. Paperwork showed it'd recently failed its MOT on a knackered fork seal, but that had been sorted and subsequently passed.
Turns out they'd just replaced the seal, which promptly went again as the forks were quite badly pitted. Got the bike home (about a 35 mile journey including the M25 - can think of better places for my first 'big bike' ride) and the right calliper was completely covered in oil... Got the bike serviced to within an inch of it's life - all fluids replaced, balanced throttles etc etc. Also got the stanchion buffed out, topped up and resealed. An hour later the other one gave up, covering my boot, fairing and new draggins. FFS! Oh, and the guys who did all the work (Wheelfit, A10, Cambridgeshire) wondered if there'd been anything corrosive spilled on the front brake pads. They'd never seen such bad corrosion, even on 365 day commuters. Great. So... I picked the bike up yesterday having had the stanchions replaced and new Hyperpro springs dropped in. Thought I'd kill two birds etc. EBC HH Sintered pads went in too. Even before bedding in they feel a million times better! Next month, new tyres. Since my rear one is probably illegal already. Looking at getting some BT023's since they seem to get excellent all round reviews. Sorry for the massive post guys, but it's been an eventful ownership already! Cheers, James (Cambs, Essex, Herts) |
Welcome ...
Enjoy and ride safe |

Re: New(ish) user
Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I've already added over a thousand miles to the bike and am enjoying it immensely! I had posted this is the SV Talk section as I was going to ask about tyre recommendations but it's been moved to idle banter. But anyway... what tyres would you guys recommend for fast road riding. Preferably max grip but with decent mileage. Pointless I know, but an attractive tread would be a bonus too. I'm a designer, I can't help it :)
Cheers. |

Power Pures work well on my K9. I'm told the PR3's are longer lasting and work better in the wet (and lets face it, at this time of the year its mostly wet) but I do trackdays and faster road riding so the Power Pures are better for that. I tried in vain to terrorise the lean tread but even though my tyre is now finished, the sides still look damn good. If only it were possible to ride all day on the side ...
