Isle of Man TT, How to visit?
I have been talking to my misses about going to the TT next summer to watch it. I have never been before so I was hoping you could help out with some suggestions.
I will be going on my bike, with her as a pillon.

Re: Isle of Man TT, How to visit?
No you don't need tickets, you only some times need tickets to sit at certain spots. If you do manage to go and want a good spot bag it early and be firm especially near the grandstand as some *****s will push there way in to get to the front as they cant be bothered to turn up and wait for a spot
The roads are only closed during the race and about an hour or so either side, other than that they are usually open, unless someone comes off on the mountain. Yes you will need to prebook everything and tbh you've left it too late, the chance of going next year on your bike are virtually nill as the ferry are fully booked and have been for a while now. Accommodation is probably also fully booked. We booked 2013 literally the day we got back from 2012 and still got crap crossing times due to everything being booked up. You might get lucky going over as foot passenger (its do-able, ferry dock in about 20-30 min walk from the grandstand) but I would say trying to book your bike on will be a lost cause as late as this is. |
Re: Isle of Man TT, How to visit?
There are a lot of people that book the ferry without looking into whether they can actually go, I think the ferry bills get sent out next month so there may be a few people drop out.

Re: Isle of Man TT, How to visit?
It looks like the bills are send out in January and need to be paid in February the latest!.. Thanks for the tips.
Could you name a couple of good camping sites? |
Re: Isle of Man TT, How to visit?
As WB says people book their ferry and pay a deposit but don't pay in full.
Just keep checking the steam packet website. You have to pay the amount in full by February so it is usually then that most places come up. There are some companies that buy ferry places to sell off so you could also try them. I will find out the company and let you know. Camping wise you will probably be Ok. It depends where abouts on the island you want to stay. As you are taking your missus the last please look into the facilities available for women at some camp sites. I have stayed at Quaterbridge before and the facilities were shocking for women You may also still get a home stay if you look around enough. Remember you don't have to go for the full TT week. Again as WB says you could go over as foot passengers. The grandstand isn't far from Douglas port. |

Have a search for sites. You will need to know what part of the island that you want to stay on. We have only camped once and then done home stay the other times. Next year we have rented a house for the week |

And book a lounge seat the boat, otherwise you'll want to cry

I can recommend Peel Campsite, if you can get on as they're fully booked for the TT. If you want to get over to the IOM and see racing next year, the Southern is your best bet now |
