IT Gurus...Unlocking a .docx
The M.I.L has a .docx that she can't remember the password for  (old people and technology)
How can I go about getting into it for her? Ste |
Re: IT Gurus...Unlocking a .docx
Spoke to some of the guys here at work (this kind of thing is what we do here :p).
It used to be easy in previous versions, but MS upped their game. There may be a tool to brute force the password, but that will take a while as it tries every combination of letters, numbers and symbols, thats if such a tool exists. |
Re: IT Gurus...Unlocking a .docx
Bugger!
Thought that may have been the case....Cheers SK Anyone out there know of suck a tool that works? I'll be off to google then. Ste |
Re: IT Gurus...Unlocking a .docx
you may be cracking this for some time depending on the algorithm used and the length of password, number of characters she used. think years rather than hours.
Is the caps/lock key pressed when trying the password? |
Re: IT Gurus...Unlocking a .docx
the usual passwords with/without caps don't work, the problem is that it's been a while since it was created and viewed so she's no idea what she was using as passwords then.

Re: IT Gurus...Unlocking a .docx
Introduce her to a program called Keepass.
Basically you remember one password to unlock the encrypted file with all of your other passwords in it. |
